FLEMINGSBURG — Fleming County held on to defeat visiting Martin County 21-14 in a non-district game on Friday, Sept. 2.
Martin County suffered its second straight loss in the 2022 high school football season, slipping to 1-2.
Fleming County claimed its second straight win, improving to 2-1.
The Panthers led 7-0 at the end of the opening quarter. Fleming County and Martin County swapped a touchdown in the second quarter to leave the Panthers out in front 14-7 at halftime.
The Panthers and Cardinals traded a touchdown again in the fourth quarter to set the final score.
Fleming County rushed 29 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Trent paced Fleming County on the ground, rushing 16 times for 86 yards and one touchdown. Following Trent, Caleb Igo rushed eight times for 66 yards and one touchdown.
Quarterback Nate Ruark led Fleming County through the air, completing eight of 16 passes for 139 yards and one touchdown. Ruark threw one interception.
Landon Johnson emerged as Fleming County’s leading receiver, hauling in four receptions for 112 yards and one touchdown.
Austin Trent and Aiden Johnson combined to lead Fleming County defensively, recording 14 tackles and 12 tackles, respectively.
Landon Johnson followed, providing 10 tackles and one interception for the Panthers.
The Cardinals rushed for 280 yards in the setback. Dawson Mills led Martin County on the ground, rushing 97 times for 197 yards and two touchdowns.
Behind Mills in Martin County’s rushing attack, Madden Miller rushed eight times for 36 yards. Following Miller, Brock Messer rushed six times for 34 yards for the Cardinals.
Martin County is scheduled to host Knott County Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9
