Cardinals to host Leslie County for season opener

INEZ — Martin County is scheduled to host Leslie County for an opener in the 2022 high school football season on Friday, Aug. 19.

The Cardinals pulled away to defeat the Eagles 40-7 in a matchup during the 2021 high school football season.

Martin County and Leslie County are Class 2A rivals from bordering districts.

The Cardinals have additional home games scheduled versus Knott County Central (Sept. 9), East Ridge (Sept. 30), West Carter (Oct. 14) and East Carter (Oct. 28).

Martin County, a member of Class 2A, District 8, exited the 2022 high school football season 8-5. The Cardinals reached the second round of the 2021 KHSAA Class 2A Playoffs.

Martin County has away games slated versus Greenup County (Aug. 26), Fleming County (Sept. 2), Bath County (Sept. 23), Shelby Valley (Oct. 7) and Prestonsburg (Oct. 21).
