WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Martin County came up short in a back as South Charleston (W.Va.) held on to win 83-81 in the 23rd Annual Hatfield-McCoy Shootout at the Williamson Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 8.

The Cardinals dropped to 15-7 after absorbing the loss.

Martin County lost despite excelling offensively.

The Cardinals shot 50.9 percent (28-of-55) from the field. Martin County shot 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from three-point range.

The Cardinals shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.

Parker Watts paced 15th Region title contender Martin County. Watts poured in 39 points and claimed eight rebounds for the Cardinals. He led all players in scoring. Joining Watts in double figures for Martin County, Peyton Davis scored 17 points and Brayden Estep netted 15 points.

Three other Martin County players combined to score 10 points. Eli Mills (six points), Devan Maynard (three points) and Bryson Dials (one point) were the other scorers for the Cardinals.
