Cardinals fall to Beechwood in region title game

FORT MITCHELL — Martin County couldn’t overcome an early deficit as Beechwood pulled away to win 44-7 in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Class 2A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 22.
With the win, Beechwood captured a region title. The win allowed Beechwood to advance to the semifinals of the KHSAA Class 2A Playoffs.
The loss eliminated Martin County from the high school football postseason.
Beechwood used a balanced offensive attack to separate itself from the Cardinals.
Quarterback Clay Hayden led Beechwood through the air, completing six passes for 95 yards and three touchdowns.
Tyler Fryman made three receptions for 76 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tigers in receiving.
Luke Erdman, another Beechwood receiver, added two receptions for 15 yards and one touchdown.
The Tigers rushed 15 times for 148 yards. Chae Flaherty led Beechwood on the ground, rushing 11 times for 142 yards and three touchdowns.
Martin County rushed 42 times for 153 yards and one touchdown in the season-ending loss.
Julian Stafford paced Martin County, rushing 15 times for 55 yards.
Following Stafford in Martin County’s rushing attack, Parker Watts took seven carries for 43 yards.
Behind Watts, Aidan Horn gained 41 yards on nine carries for the Cardinals.
Finding the endzone, Devan Maynard delivered a rushing touchdown for Martin County in the setback.
Martin County exited the high school football season 9-4.
