Cardinals fall to 14th Region title contender Wolfe County

CAMPTON – Martin County was unable to return to the win column on the road as Wolfe County, a 14th Region title contender, defeated the Cardinals 81-76 in a boys' high school basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 20.
Following the loss, Martin County dropped to 5-8.
Wolfe County improved to 8-7 after claiming the win.
Wolfe County shot 49.2 percent (30-of-61) from the field. The Wolves were 7-of-21 (33.3 percent) from 3-point range.
Wolfe County shot 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the free throw line.
The 2019-20 14th Region Runner-up, Wolfe County controlled the backboards, outrebounding Martin County 33-18.
Four Wolves reached double figures in scoring. Jaz Johnson paced Wolfe County, scoring a team-high 23 points.
Wolfe County used a balanced offensive attack to notch the win.
Wilgus Tolson (16 points), Elijah Tolson (15 points), Skylar Ritchie (15 points) and Sawyer Thompson (10 points) joined Johnson in double figures in scoring for 14th Region title contender Wolfe County.
Ritchie recorded a double-double, grabbing 14 rebounds for the Wolves.
Reigning 15th Region champion Martin County shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) from the field. The Cardinals were 11-of-29 (37.9 percent) from 3-point range.
Martin County shot 60 percent (9-of-15) from the free throw line.
Brady Dingess continued to lead Martin County, scoring a game-high 28 points for the Cardinals.
Accompanying Dingess in double figures in scoring for Martin County, Luke Hale added 20 points and Parker Davis tossed in 11 points.
Martin County suffered its third straight loss after winning four of five games.
