INEZ — Martin County managed to edge East Ridge 3-2 in the 15th Region All “A” Classic on Tuesday, April 5.

The Cardinals and Warriors met for the first time in the 2022 high school baseball season.

Dennison Davis earned the win on the mound for the Cardinals. Davis pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and four walks. Working out of a starting role, Davis recorded seven strikeouts.

Chase Preece closed out the game on the mound for Martin County and notched the save. Preece pitched the final inning, allowing one run on one hit and registering two strikeouts.

Martin County, a member of the 57th District, made the most of its offensive opportunities, plating three runs on three hits.

Davis, Evan Crum and Dawson Mills connected for one hit apiece in Martin County’s win. Crum homered and drove in two runs. Prior to closing out the game on the mound, Preece drove in one run.

East Ridge slipped into the loss column after posting back-to-back wins over Cordia and Tug Valley (W.Va.).

Martin County is scheduled to visit East Ridge for a late-season high school baseball game on Friday, May 13.
