PAINTSVILLE — Martin County pulled away to defeat Johnson Central 86-66 in a 57th District boys’ basketball game at the Paul R. Setser Eagle Field House on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
The Cardinals set the tone early in the district matchup.
Visiting Martin County connected on over half of its shots from inside the arc.
Martin County shot 51.5 percent (35-of-68) from the field. The Cardinals shot 31.2 percent (seven-of-22) from three-point range.
Martin County shot 90 percent (nine-of-10) from the free throw line.
The Cardinals outrebounded the Golden Eagles 32-29.
Four Martin County scorers reached double figures. Leading Martin County to the win, Peyton Davis scored 19 points.
Joining Davis in double figures for Martin County, Luke Hale scored 15 points, Dray Duff netted 12 points and Ethan Ferrell finished with 10 points.
Nearly reaching double figures for the Cardinals, Jacob Sturgell scored nine points and Brayden McKenzie netted eight points.
Nine different players scored for the Cardinals. Matthew Linville (five points), Devan Maynard (four points) and Blake Maynard (four points) combined for the rest of Martin County’s individual scoring.
Johnson Central finished 20-of-56 from the field, shooting 35.7 percent. The Golden Eagles shot 40 percent (six-of-15) from three-point range.

Ryan Rose led the Golden Eagles, scoring 20 points and claiming eight rebounds. Rose led all players in scoring and rebounding.
Following Rose in double figures for Johnson Central, Austin Slone and David Finks scored 16 points apiece.
