Cardinals defeat Shelby Valley 40-28

INEZ — Remaining in the win column, Martin County defeated Shelby Valley 40-28 on Friday, Sept. 6.

Class 2A rivals, Shelby Valley and Martin County met for a non-district game.

Martin County rushed 50 times for 331 yards and six touchdowns.

Quarterback Devan Maynard led Martin County to the win, rushing 29 times for 254 yards and five touchdowns. Productive on the ground and through the air, Maynard completed five passes for 43 yards.

Following Maynard in Martin County’s offensive attack, Aiden Horn rushed 11 times for 52 yards.

Reaching the endzone once, Crayson Lafferty rushed eight times for 23 yards and one touchdown in the Cardinals’ win.

Four different Martin County receivers hauled in at least one reception.

Lafferty paced Martin County defensively, recording a game-high 15 tackles for the Cardinals.

Making an impact in the secondary for Martin County, Maynard and Horn each recorded one interception.

Martin County (2-1) is scheduled to host Paintsville (1-2) for its next game on Friday, Sept. 13.
