PIKEVILLE — Lawrence County pulled away to beat Belfry 65-45 in the opening round of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Wednesday, March 1.
Following the win, Lawrence County advanced to the semifinals of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament.
Lawrence County shook off a slow start to claim the win.
Belfry edged Lawrence County 9-8 in the first quarter but fell behind, trailing the Bulldogs midway through the matchup.
The Bulldogs moved ahead in the second quarter to lead 24-20 at halftime.
Extending its lead to a double-digit advantage after halftime, Lawrence County outscored Belfry 25-13 in the third quarter.
Andrew Bloomfield scored a game-high 20 points to lead Lawrence County to the win.
Following Bloomfield in double figures for the Bulldogs, Kaden Gillispie scored 13 points and Logan Ratliff netted 12 points.
Hayden Perry tossed in nine points for the Bulldogs while Blake Marcum contributed six points and Will Lafferty added five points.
Cody Erwin scored 16 points to pace the Pirates. Erwin connected on three of five three-point field goal attempts.
Accompanying Erwin in double figures for Belfry, Caden Woolum netted 13 points.
The other scorers for Belfry in its season-ending loss were Noah Brown (seven points), Cayden Varney (four points), Jonathan Banks (three points) and Eric Daniels (two points).
Banks paced Belfry inside, pulling down 10 rebounds.
