WAYNE, W.Va. — Lawrence County topped Wayne (W.Va.) 80-70 in the Steele Strong Classic on Saturday, Jan. 31.

The Bulldogs improved to 11-9 after registering the win.

Lawrence County took a lead out of each quarter, outscoring Wayne County 23-19 in the opening period.

The Bulldogs led the Pioneers 42-35 at halftime.

After extending its lead, Lawrence County exited the third quarter ahead 65-51.

Kaiden Harris emerged as the leader for Lawrence County, scoring a team-high 22 points for the Bulldogs. Harris made three three-point field goals.

Following Harris in Lawrence County’s scoring column, Hayden Perry netted 18 points.

Four scorers reached double figures for the Bulldogs. Caden Muncy scored 15 points for Lawrence County while Andrew Ratcliffe netted 11 points.

Finishing in single digits, CJ Waller (five points), Kaden Johnson (five points), Isaah Hughes (three points) and Grant Cochran (one point) aided Lawrence County offensively.

Lawrence County made a dozen three-point field goals. The Bulldogs connected on 17 of 27 free throw attempts, shooting 62.9 percent from the foul line.

Landon Preece scored a game-high 23 points for the Pioneers. Finishing directly behind Preece in Wayne’s scoring column, Colton Heck scored 22 points while Colton Preece netted 15 points.

The other scorers for Wayne were Carter Ross (five points), Kaiden Hayton (four points) and Hunter Bryant (one point).
