Bulldogs to host Morgan County for season opener

LOUISA — Lawrence County is set to tip off the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season at home versus Morgan County on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

The Bulldogs compiled a 24-8 record in the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season. During the 2022-23 season, Lawrence County finished as the 58th District runner-up and made an appearance in the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

Former 15th Region champion Lawrence County will be without double figures scorers Cody Maynard (22.4 ppg), Trenton Adkins (16.0 ppg) and Anthony Johnson (16.0 ppg) in the 2022-23 season. Minus its top three scorers for the 2021-22 season, Lawrence County will feature Will Lafferty (Sr., G, 7.3 ppg), Andrew Bloomfield (Jr., G, 6.7 ppg) and Kaden Gillespie (Sr., G, 6.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg). Lawrence County finished as the 58th District runner-up behind Betsy Layne in the 2021-22 season.

In addition to Morgan County, Lawrence County’s 2022-23 schedule includes Betsy Layne, Bath County, Pike County Central, Raceland, West Carter, Huntington St. Joseph Prep (W.Va.), Prestonsburg, Phelps, East Ridge, Belfry, Johnson Central, Floyd Central, Lewis County, East Carter, Russell, Paintsville and Fairview.

Tip-off for the Lawrence County-Morgan County boys’ basketball game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Louisa.
