Bulldogs to host Blackcats for final scrimmage

LOUISA — Lawrence County is scheduled to host Prestonsburg for its final scrimmage in the 2025 high school football preseason on Friday, Aug. 15.

The Bulldogs and Blackcats aren’t scheduled to meet in the upcoming high school football regular season.

Lawrence County, under the guidance of Coach Alan Short, finished as the Class 3A, District 8 runner-up and put together an 8-4 record in 2024. The Bulldogs reached the second round of the 2024 KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs.

Prestonsburg is the reigning Class 2A, District 7 champion. The Blackcats, under the direction of Coach Wesley Hager, reached the third round of the 2024 KHSAA Class 2A Playoffs.

Lawrence County hosted former state champions Johnson Central and Russell for a three-team scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 8.

The Bulldogs opened preseason practice in July. Lawrence County is a perennial title contender.

The Bulldogs have regular season games scheduled versus Martin County, Garrard County, Ashland, North Laurel, Letcher County Central, Mason County, Powell County, Estill County, Magoffin County and Boyd County. Lawrence County is slated to visit border rival Martin County for its season opener on Friday, Aug. 22.

The start time for the Lawrence County-Prestonsburg scrimmage is 7 p.m.
