Bulldogs sweep Boyd County in doubleheader

LOUISA – Lawrence County swept former 16th Region foe Boyd County in a high school softball doubleheader on Saturday, May 15, winning 4-3 and 5-4.

Lawrence County edged visiting Boyd County 5-4 in the nightcap of a high school baseball doubleheader on Saturday, May 15.

Boyd County managed to outhit the Bulldogs 10-6. However, Boyd County committed three errors.

Jake Derifield earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. Jake Derifield pitched one and one-third innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero.

Jacob Vanover suffered the loss on the mound for the Lions. Vanover allowed four runs on six hits over six innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Working out of a relief role for Boyd County, Jacob Vanover threw two-thirds of an inning.

Blue Fletcher started the game on the mound for the Bulldogs. Fletcher surrendered four runs on eight hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one

Derifield went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Lawrence County's offensive effort. Aiding Lawrence County at the plate, Fletcher, Brayden Maynard, Abner Collinsworth and Will Lafferty drove in one run apiece.

Homestanding Lawrence County outlasted Boyd County 4-3 in the opening game of a high school baseball doubleheader on Saturday, May 15.

Bryce Blevins claimed the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. Blevins pitched a complete game, surrendering three runs on five hits while recording 13 strikeouts and walking zero over seven innings.

Luke Patton took the pitching loss for the Lions. Patton pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits while striking out seven.

Lawrence County outhit Boyd County 11-5. Blevins, Brayden Maynard and Will Lafferty each recorded multiple hits for the Bulldogs.

Blevins led Lawrence County at the plate, finishing 4-for-4. Following Blevins, Maynard finished 3-for-4.

Andrew Mortimer
