Bulldogs sweep Bobcats in district doubleheader; Cochran pitches no-hitter for Lawrence County

LOUISA — Lawrence County swept Betsy Layne in a 58th District baseball doubleheader on Thursday, March 19.

The Bulldogs prevailed via the KHSAA Mercy Rule in each 58th District game, winning 12-2 and 15-0.

Lawrence County hosted Betsy Layne for its season opener and defeated the visiting team convincingly in back-to-back games.

The Bulldogs and Bobcats aren’t scheduled to meet again in the 2026 high school baseball regular season.

Lawrence County 12, Betsy Layne 2 (5 innings): Lawrence County beat Betsy Layne 12-2 in five innings in the opening game of a 58th District baseball doubleheader on Thursday, March 19.

Boedy Maynard started on the mound for Lawrence County and earned the win.

Eli Caudill relieved Maynard, contributing on the mound for the Bulldogs.

Maynard and Caudill combined to record five strikeouts.

Lawrence County plated 12 runs on six hits. Maynard (one hit, two RBIs), Braxton Davis (two hits, two RBIs), Grant Cochran (two hits, one RBI) and Gray Derifield (one hit, one RBI) each produced offensively for the Bulldogs. Both Maynard and Davis doubled while Cochran tripled.  

Lawrence County 15, Betsy Layne 0 (4 innings): Grant Cochran pitched a no-hitter as Lawrence County shut out Betsy Layne 15-0 in four innings in the final game of a 58th District baseball doubleheader on Thursday, March 19.

Cochran allowed only one walk and recorded eight strikeouts.

Lawrence County scored 15 runs on seven hits. Cochran (one hit, three RBIs), Boedy Maynard (two hits, three RBIs), Max Murriel (two hits, one RBI), Brady Caudill (one hit), Braxton Davis (one hit), Gray Derifield (one RBI) and Owen Pack (one RBI) each made an impact at the plate in Lawrence County’s shutout win. Both Maynard and Caudill doubled for the Bulldogs.
