LOUISA — Lawrence County rushed past visiting Magoffin County 43-14 in a Class 3A, District 8 opener on Friday, Sept. 17.
The win allowed Lawrence County to move to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Class 3A, District 8.
Magoffin County suffered its first loss in the 2021 high school football season, dropping to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the district.
Lawrence County set the tone early. The Bulldogs moved ahead and forced Magoffin County to play from behind throughout the district game.
Lawrence County was out in front 36-0 in the second quarter before Magoffin County scored its first touchdown.
The Bulldogs led 36-6 at halftime.
A contender for the Class 3A, District 8 title, Lawrence County finished with 307 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs rushed for 249 yards in the win.
Blue Fletcher led Lawrence County on the ground, rushing six times for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
Dougie Hall followed on the ground for the Bulldogs, rushing six times for 60 yards and two touchdowns of his own.
Alex Strickland added 49 yards and one touchdown on four carries for the Bulldogs.
Rounding out Lawrence County's rushing effort, Dylan Ferguson rushed six times for 31 yards and one touchdown.
Through the air, Strickland completed three of four passes for 58 yards.
Quarterback Lucas Litteral lead Magoffin County, completing nine of 22 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
Aden Barnett paced the Hornets in receiving, reeling in three receptions for 62 yards and two TDs.
Magoffin County was limited on the ground, rushing 21 times for 48 yards.
Providing a turnover for the Hornets, Matthew Sparks recorded an interception.
Lawrence County is scheduled to host East Carter for a non-district game on Friday, Sept. 24.
