Bulldogs overcome halftime deficit, upend Betsy Layne

BETSY LAYNE — Lawrence County overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to upend Betsy Layne 81-74 in a 58th District boys' basketball game at Junior Newsome Arena on Friday, Feb. 4.
The Bulldogs fared well early, outscoring Betsy Layne 22-18 in the first quarter. But Betsy Layne heated up offensively in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 25-10 to lead 43-32 at halftime.
But the Bulldogs answered after the break.
Battling back, Lawrence County outscored Betsy Layne 24-17 in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs moved out in front during the fourth quarter, outscoring Betsy Layne 25-12 to claim the district win.
Cody Maynard poured in a game-high 33 points to lead Lawrence County to the district victory.
Accompanying Maynard in double figures for the Bulldogs, Andrew Bloomfield netted 22 points.
Nearly reaching double figures in scoring for Lawrence County, Trenton Adkins and Will Lafferty added nine points apiece.
Shawn Dee Howell scored 28 points to lead the Bobcats. Joining Howell in double figures for Betsy Layne, Brady Robinson scored 17 points and Jordan Frazier netted 16 points,
Barely missing double figures for the Bobcats, Chase Mims finished with nine points.
The win allowed Lawrence County to sweep its regular season series from reigning 58th District champion Betsy Layne.
