Bulldogs notch back-to-back wins over Johnson Central, Raceland

LOUISA — Lawrence County notched back-to-back wins Tuesday, Feb. 15, and Wednesday, Feb. 16, defeating Johnson Central and Raceland.

The Bulldogs won each game convincingly.

Lawrence County 73, Johnson Central 52

Lawrence County pulled away to defeat visiting Johnson Central 73-52 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

Hitting nearly half of its attempts, Lawrence County shot 49.2 percent (30 of 61) from the field. The Bulldogs connected on five of 14 three-point field goal attempts.

The Bulldogs shot 66.7 percent (eight of 12) from the free-throw line in the win over former 57th District rival Johnson Central.

Cody Maynard led four Lawrence County players in double figures, scoring a game-high 22 points for the Bulldogs. Accompanying Maynard in double figures for Lawrence County, Will Lafferty scored 16 points, Andrew Bloomfield netted 15 points and Trenton Adkins added 13 points. Adkins posted a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds.

Johnson Central shot 36.4 percent (20 of 55) from the field. The Golden Eagles shot 24 percent (six of 25) from three-point range.

Struggling to connect on free throws, Johnson Central shot only 31.6 percent (six of 19) from the foul line.

Johnson Central didn't feature any scorers in double figures. Connor Lemaster and Grant Rice scored a team-high eight points apiece for the Golden Eagles. Following Lemaster and Rice in scoring for Johnson Central, Reece Collins netted seven points apiece.

Lawrence County 72, Raceland 60

Lawrence County topped visiting Raceland 72-60 in a boys' high school basketball game on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

The Bulldogs and Rams are former 16th Region foes.

Lawrence County shot 48.2 percent (27 of 56) from the field in the win. The Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent (five of 15) from three-point range. '

Lawrence County shot 68.4 percent (13 of 19) from the free-throw line.

Cody Maynard scored a game-high 30 points to lead Lawrence County to the win. In addition to Maynard reaching double figures for the Bulldogs, Andrew Bloomfield scored 17 points, Will Lafferty netted 12 points and Trenton Adkins tossed in 10 points. Nearly registering a double-double for the Bulldogs, Adkins pulled down nine rebounds.

Raceland shot 53.3 percent (24 of 45) from the field. The Rams shot 42.1 percent (eight of 19) from three-point range.

Limited at the foul line, Raceland drained only four of 12 free-throw attempts.

Kyle Broughton scored 17 points to lead the Rams. Accompanying Broughton in double figures for Raceland, Andrew Floyd netted 11 points and Jacob Gauze added 10 points.
