VANCEBURG — Working its way back into the win column, visiting Lawrence County leveled Lewis County 71-54 in a non-district boys’ high school basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Lawrence County improved to 18-4 after registering the win.

As a result of the loss, Lewis County dropped to 5-12.

Hayden Perry scored a game-high 27 points to lead Lawrence County to the win.

Following Perry in double figures for Lawrence County, Ford Scaggs netted 13 points.

Nearly reaching double digits for Lawrence County, Andrew Bloomfield and Logan Ratliff added eight points apiece while Gunnar Woods contributed seven points.

Rounding out Lawrence County’s scoring, Luke Fetherolf and Caden Muncy chipped in three points apiece while Kasen Staniford tallied two points.

Lawrence County connected on 15 of 23 free throw attempts in its convincing victory.

Betsy Layne 66, Lawrence County 62: Suffering a setback on the road, Lawrence County came up short as Betsy Layne held on to win 66-62 in a 58th District boys’ basketball game on Friday, Feb. 2.

Lawrence County dropped to 4-1 in the 58th District after absorbing the loss.

The win allowed Betsy Layne to improve to 3-1 in the 58th District.

Luke Fetherolf scored 14 points to pace the Bulldogs.

Joining Fetherolf in double figures for Lawrence County, Gunnar Woods scored 11 points.

Barely missing double figures for Lawrence County, Logan Ratliff and Blake Marcum netted nine points apiece while Andrew Bloomfield scored eight points.

The other scorers for Lawrence County in the district matchup were Kaden Johnson (five points), Ford Scaggs (four points) and Hayden Perry (two points).
