Bulldogs knock off Pirates 35-21 in historic win

LOUISA — Lawrence County dominated throughout the second half to knock off defending state champion Belfry 35-21 in a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 14.
Host Lawrence County claimed the district win on Hall of Fame Night, defeating Belfry for the first time in 20 years.
The Bulldogs scored 28 unanswered points to top Belfry in the district showdown.
Belfry scored first and led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Overcoming its slow start, Lawrence County managed to reach the endzone twice during the second quarter. But Belfry held on to lead 21-14 at halftime.
The Bulldogs controlled the second half, producing three touchdowns while holding Belfry scoreless.
Lawrence County rushed 15 times for 130 yards and four touchdowns in the district win.
Dylan Ferguson led Lawrence County, rushing 15 times for 130 yards and four touchdowns.
Talan Pollock paced Lawrence County through the air, completing 10 of 16 passes for 92 yards and one touchdown.
Chipping in on the ground for Lawrence County, Pollock rushed seven times for 21 yards.
Kaden Gillispie remained Lawrence County’s leading receiver, hauling in 10 receptions for 92 yards and one touchdown.
Delivering on the defensive side for Lawrence County in the district win, Caden Ball and Cody Crum recorded three tackles each.
Dre Young led Belfry, rushing 21 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns.
After claiming the win, Lawrence County improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Class 3A, District 8.
Lawrence County is scheduled to visit Floyd Central for a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 21.
In another Class 3A, District 8 game scheduled for Friday, Oct. 21. Belfry is slated to host Pike County Central.
