Bulldogs knock off Jaguars

EASTERN — Clinching the number one seed for the 2023-24 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Lawrence County defeated Floyd Central 99-87 on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

With the win, Lawrence County improved to 19-4 overall and 5-1 in the 58th District.

Floyd Central dropped to 9-12 overall and 3-3 in the 58th District after suffering the loss.

Lawrence County edged Floyd Central 24-22 in the opening quarter.

But Floyd Central managed to lead 50-45 midway through the matchup.

Storming back, Lawrence County moved back out in front and led 72-67 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Lawrence County shot 60.3 percent (35-of-58) from the field and excelled beyond arc. The Bulldogs shot 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from three-point range.

Lawrence County shot 66.7 percent (18-of-27) from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs outrebounded the Jaguars 36-26.

Andrew Bloomfield scored a game-high 25 points to lead Lawrence County to the 58th District win.

Supplying a double-double for Lawrence County, Hayden Perry scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Finishing directly behind Bloomfield in scoring for Lawrence County, Hayden Perry netted 21 points while Gunnar Woods tallied 15 points.

Barely missing double figures for the Bulldogs, Luke Fetherolf scored nine points.

Supplying Lawrence County’s additional scoring, Logan Ratliff added five points and Ford Scaggs contributed two points.

Braden Moore scored 23 points to lead the Jaguars. Joining Moore in double figures for Floyd Central, Chris Spriggs scored 21 points, Ronnie Samons netted 15 points and Brody Buck tallied 11 points.

Finishing near double figures for Floyd Central, Dylan Boyd added nine points and Logan Meade tallied eight points.
