Bulldogs fall to Tigers in region tournament’s first round

PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County suffered a season-ending loss as Paintsville prevailed 6-0 in the first round of the 15th Region Baseball Tournament at StoneCrest on Sunday, May 21.
Jonah Porter and Ashton Miller combined to pitch a four-hit shutout for the Tigers.
Porter started on the mound for Paintsville and claimed the win. Porter pitched six and one-third innings, allowing three hits while registering 14 strikeouts.
Miller closed out the game for Paintsville, pitching the last two-thirds of an inning. Making a strong relief appearance, Miller allowed one hit while striking out two Lawrence County batters.
Lawrence County starting pitcher Jake Derifield suffered the loss on the mound. Derifield pitched the first two innings.
Replacing Derifield on the mound, Will Lafferty pitched four innings for the Bulldogs.
Paintsville plated six runs on nine hits. Miller (two hits, three RBIs), AJ James (two hits, one RBI), Peyton Adams (two hits), Austin Allen (one hit, two RBIs), Dixon Kincheloe (one hit) and Harris Phelps (one hit) each produced at the plate for the Tigers. Providing an extra-base hit, Miller doubled.
Lafferty (two hits), Blake Prater (one hit) Abner Collinsworth (one hit) each connected at the plate for Lawrence County in the region tournament game.
Lawrence County ended its 2023 season 18-12.
