LOUISA – Reigning 58th District champion Lawrence County dropped a key game to Betsy Layne over the weekend.

Visiting Betsy Layne beat Lawrence County 80-65 in a 58th District boys' basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Following the loss, Lawrence County dropped to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the 58th District.

Betsy Layne improved to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in the district after claiming the win.

Betsy Layne shot 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the field. The Bobcats were 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) from 3-point range.

Betsy Layne outrebounded Lawrence County 30-21 and shot 84 percent (21-of-50) from the free throw line.

Four Bobcats reached double figures in the scoring column.

Jordan Frazier led Betsy Layne, scoring a team-high 23 points for the 58th District frontrunner.

Brady Robinson followed Frazier, scoring 18 points for the Bobcats.

Registering a double-double for Betsy Layne, Chase Mims scored 15 points and collected a game-high 15 rebounds.

Joining three of his teammates in double figures in scoring, Byron Tackett tossed in 11 points for the Bobcats.

Lawrence County shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from the field. The Bulldogs were 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from 3-point range.

Lawrence County shot 70 percent (7-of-10) from the free throw line.

Trenton Adkins paced Lawrence County with a double-double, scoring a game-high 25 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Accompanying Adkins in double figures in scoring for the Bulldogs, Cody Maynard added 15 points and Baden Gillispie posted 10 points.
