Bulldogs battle back from behind, beat Blackcats 77-70

PRESTONSBURG — Notching its fourth straight win, Lawrence County beat Prestonsburg 77-70 in a 58th District boys’ basketball game on Friday, Dec. 15.
Lawrence County, which improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the 58th District, battled back from behind to claim the 58th District win.
Prestonsburg suffered the loss after carrying a lead out of each of the first three quarters.
Moving ahead early, Prestonsburg outscored Lawrence County 24-19 in the first period.
The Blackcats led 40-35 at halftime and owned multiple leads in the second half.
Prestonsburg led 58-53 at the end of the third quarter but faltered.
Lawrence County doubled up Prestonsburg 14-12 in the fourth quarter to claim the 58th District win.
Blake Marcum scored a game-high 25 points to lead Lawrence County to the victory. Marcum made four three-point field goals.
Accompanying Marcum in double figure for Lawrence County, Luke Fetherholf scored 20 points and Hayden Perry netted 10 points.
Narrowly missing double figures for Lawrence County, Logan Ratliff added nine points while Andrew Bloomfield tallied eight points and Ford Scaggs contributed three points.
Lawrence County made 11 three-point field goals.
Braxton Keathley scored 22 points to lead Prestonsburg in the 58th District boys’ basketball game. Along with Keathley reaching double figures for Prestonsburg, Ethan Ferrell scored 16 points and Kaden Allen netted 15 points.
Chipping in offensively for Prestonsburg, Jaxon Estridge added seven points while Mason Stidham and Brian Halbert finished with five points apiece.
Lawrence County is scheduled to meet Shelby Valley in the Prestonsburg Christmas Classic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21.
