PIKEVILLE — University of Pikeville men’s basketball head coach Tigh Compton has added Preston Boswell to his coaching staff for the 2024-25 season.
“We’re very pleased to have Coach Boswell join our staff,” said Compton. “He will bring a new aspect to our coaching staff and our program. He gained a broad base of experience in two seasons at the NCAA Division II level. We’re excited to welcome him to the UPike family.”
Boswell comes to UPike from Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va., where he was an assistant coach last season. Prior to that, Boswell spent the 2022-23 season at California University of Pennsylvania.
A native of New Martinsville, W.Va., Boswell was a prolific scorer in his playing days, scoring 1,583 points in 117 games, getting the start in every one of the matchups. He played in three NCAA Div. II tournaments in his career.
Boswell got his regent’s degree with a minor in mathematics from West Liberty (W.Va.) University before completing his M.S. in sport management from California (Penn.) in 2022.
At Davis & Elkins last year, Boswell oversaw recruiting and served as academic advisor for the team. He was involved in planning practices, skills development and scouting reports while aiding in fundraising activities.
In addition, Boswell created the strength and conditioning program and led player development and individual skill work.
Prior to that, Boswell was in charge of recruiting and video at California (Penn.), while being active in on-campus recruits skill assessment. He collaborated with practice planning and scouting reports at his alma mater while helping with position work and development, specifically with the guards.
Boswell joins a coaching staff that includes Compton, Associate Head Coach Sid Crist, Graduate Assistant Charlie Cox and Student Assistant Isaiah Salyer.
