Blaine Cheerleaders win Elementary Tournament

The Blaine School cheerleaders took first place in cheerleading at the Eastern Kentucky Elementary Basketball Conference Cheer Tournament held on Saturday, Jan. 7, at Paintsville High School. The school held a pep rally on Monday, Jan. 9, to celebrate. It had been over 20 years since that last cheer trophy had been won by Blaine Elementary School. The BES basketball team, in a reversal role, made the tunnel for the cheerleaders to run out onto the floor. The girls performed their winning cheer routine for the school. Team members are Bell Griffith, Lura Forrest, Kimerbly Fugitt, Katelynn Lewis, Shelby Justice, Olivia Workman, Jocelyn Murray, Keira Young and Aubrey Napier. Coaches are Jennifer Ferguson and Ariel Murray. Coach Ferguson stated, “I’ve have never been more proud of a cheer squad than this year. All of my girls have worked so hard and improved beyond words. This week, a few of them participated in their first competition. While we don’t know the results yet, they are definitely winners in my eyes! We were fortunate to have 19 girls on our regular season 2023-2023 team. That’s 19 uniforms to keep up with, 19 heads of hair to curl, and 19 sets of pom-poms to transport. And it all happened, every single game. I can’t thank the parents enough for all of their support and help. Without them, nothing this season would’ve be possible.”
