Wreck in Johnson County Claims Two Lives

A two-vehicle collision claimed the lives of two women Thursday, March 12.
According to a press release from Kentucky State Police Post 9, Pikeville, they received notification of the collision with injuries at approximately 1:31 p.m.
The collision occurred on Kentucky Route 321 in the Hagerhill community of Johnson County.
The KSP release stated that the preliminary investigation indicated Retina Meek, 45, of Williamsport, was operating a 2001 Buick passenger vehicle when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 2018 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by Jason Kinner.
Meek and a passenger in the Buick, her mother, Anita Jo Meek, 65, of Paintsville were transported to medical facilities for treatment. Both individuals later succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
The collision remains under investigation by KSP Accident Reconstructionist Detective Matt Smith. Detective Smith was assisted at the scene by personnel from Kentucky State Police Post 9, West Van Lear Volunteer Fire Department, and Paintsville EMS.
Services for both ladies will be 1 p.m., Thursday, March 19, at Phelps and Son Funeral Home, Paintsville. Visitation will be 3-9 p.m., March 18, at the funeral home. Burial in Butcher Family Cemetery, Williamsport.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contribution be made to the Phelps and Son Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
