VAN LEAR — The Van Lear Days celebration is scheduled Friday and Saturday in Johnson County, but the Van Lear Historical Society Coal Miners’ Museum will be closed to the public for the duration of the event.
Music shows will be held Friday and Saturday, with Jamie Suttle performing Saturday. There will also be a car show, turkey shoot, kid’s games, a parade, a skillet throw and a hay bale toss. Van Lear Days was originally planning to have corn hole tournaments as well, but have since decided to take that off the list of events. The event is being moved to September, but a specific date has not yet been announced. Due to COVID-19 limitation guidelines, there will not be any inside activities and everyone is encouraged to practice social distancing and to wear masks. Van Lear Idol will be held on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. “We will have our grounds marked off in six feet increments, please bring your lawn chair and enjoy music from some great bands,” a release said. “We will also have our concession stands open, with masks and social distancing.” For more information, contact Tina at the museum at (606)-789-8540.
