Tractor Accident in Webbville Claims One Life

WEBBVILLE —The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office posted information on their Facebook page regarding a tractor accident Wednesday evening that claimed the life of a 70-year-old man.
William “Billy” Edward Derefield, 70, of Webbville was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:29 p.m.
Billy was a Timber Cutter and a member of the Irish Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jean Robertson Derefield; a brother, Mont Derefield Jr.; two sisters, Carolyn Sue Derefield and Brenda Kay Hinds.
Lawrence County Deputy Coroner Chris Wilson responded to a call from Lawrence County E911 concerning a tractor accident on the Right Fork of Irish Creek near Webbville, at approximately 8:55 p.m. Wednesday night, on Oct. 4, the post said.
Wilson arrived on the scene at 9:41 p.m. where he was assisted by the Webbville Fire Department, EMT’s with the local ambulance service, Emergency Management Director Travis Hughes, and various neighbors and community members, the post also said.
The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office also offered their condolences to the family and friends of Derefield.
Graveside funeral services were held Monday at the William and Phyllis Derefield Cemetery at 2780 Right Fork Irish Creek Road in Webbville, with Pastor Lincus Hogston and Pastor Charlie Wilks officiating. Care for Derefield and his family has been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.
