Following the hiring of Williams, she issued a public statement which follows:

I want to thank the Floyd County Board of Education for entrusting me with this incredible opportunity to be the next superintendent of Floyd County School. I am a lifelong resident of Floyd County with nearly three decades of experience in education. It is an honor and privilege to be selected to lead the district in this esteemed role.

As we move forward as Team Floyd, my focus will be on fostering excellence in education and ensuring that every student has the tools they need to succeed in life. I want to have open communication, and be accessible to all stakeholders. Together, we will continue to provide students with exceptional opportunities to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

My 28-year career in education began in Floyd County Schools, where I have served as a variety of roles, including substitute teacher, ESS tutor, primary teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, lead director, and most recently, chief academic officer before retiring in August of 2019. I am confident my experience, leadership and dedication will propel the district to even greater levels of success. I will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to build a stronger and more united Team Floyd.

As a proud resident of Floyd County, I am deeply invested in the success of our community and school system – both as an educational leader and as a parent.

My husband, Michael Williams, and I, are parents to two teenagers who are currently enrolled in the Floyd County School system. I am the daughter of Freeda Conley Horne and the late Donald Vernon Horne, a proud Vietnam Veteran.

As someone who has enduring love for Floyd County, I am deeply committed to ensuring that Floyd County Schools provides an environment where every student can reach their full potential.
