One fatality in crash in Floyd County on Jan. 17

Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post was notified of a three-vehicle fatal collision in Floyd County at approximately 2:24 p.m., Friday, Jan. 17.

The collision occurred at the intersection of KY Route 1103 and KY Route 680 in the Minnie community.

Upon arrival and through the investigation, troopers discovered Terry Samons was operating a 2002 Toyota Tacoma and attempted to merge onto KY Route 680 when his vehicle was struck by a 2020 Ford Escape operated by Elsie Watts. Samons’ vehicle then collided with a 2023 Toyota Highlander operated by Elizabeth Issac. Samons was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s office.

KSP Accident Reconstructionist, Detective Josh Scott is investigating the collision and was assisted on the scene by KSP Post 9 personnel.

According to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department officials, two other people were transported to Pikeville Medical Center for their injuries.

Funeral services for Mr. Samons will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, at Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin. Visitation all day Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Blueberry Hill Cemetery, Arkansas Creek, Martin.

He is survived by sons, John, Nick and Rossi; three sisters; and four grandchildren. He was a US Army veteran and retired from Potter Medical Clinic as a X-Ray Technician.
