LOUISA — Lawrence County Fiscal Court members reappointed several members to boards during their meeting Tuesday and also approved the hiring of a temporary solid waste coordinator to fill in for Jim Burchett, who is currently off for medical reasons.

Joel Baldwin was appointed as the temporary solid waste coordinator with a motion from Magistrate Rick Blackburn, a second by Mike Halcomb and all in favor.

Those reappointed to boards include Neil Wilson and John Scaggs to the solid waste board; Junior Rose to the cemetery board; Craig McNeil to the zoning board; Roger Jordan to the housing board; Rachel Carter to the fair board; Vince Doty to the FIVCO planning board; Jim Burchett to solid waste; Michael Shapaka and Darlene Staniford to the zoning board; Debbie Hill and Wes Kingsmore to the tourism board; Danny Maynard and Paul Rice to the extension board; Bill Hardin to the Big Sandy Water District Board and Lawrence Vinson to the FIVCO Board.

The fiscal court also unanimously approved a resolution for two Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) grants. Deputy Judge Vince Doty said that one was for a lodge for $4.9 million and the other was for an industrial spec building at just over $4 million.

The court also approved a proclamation declaring April as Spring Clean-Up Month with a motion from Blackburn, a second by Halcomb and all in favor.

The court also authorized the clerk to bid the waterline extension at Blaine after Doty said it had to be bid because of the type of fund it is.

Magistrate Dave Pinson made the motion, which was seconded by Blackburn, with all in favor.

Before the end of the meeting, a group of Future Farmers of American (FFA) members from Lawrence County High School asked the court to declare Feb. 19-26 as FFA Week, and it agreed. The students also presented each court member with a coffee mug.

In other business, the court approved the minutes of the Jan. 19 meeting, the first reading of budget amendment #4, the treasurer’s request, the bills and the treasurer’s report.
