Rose honored with name on Country Music Highway

A joint resolution directing the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to include Marvin Rose on the Country Music Highway sign in Lawrence County.

Marvin Ray Rose, was born on Nov. 6, 1937, in Louisa, to the late John and Salley Rose and grew up in Louisa and graduated from Louisa High School. He was also an Army veteran.

Marvin was a distinguished bluegrass musician, traveling the country with his band, Marvin Rose and Co. He enjoyed a long career, performing bluegrass and country music for over 34 years.

During his career, Marvin made 21 recordings, a gospel album “Coming Home” and “34 Years of Bluegrass” album.

Marvin passed away in 2011, in South Charleston, WV.

His daughter, Yvette contacted the Lawrence County Tourism Commission about getting her father’s name on the sign. They in turn put her in touch with Kentucky Representative Scott Sharp who took it before the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

A ceremony was held on Friday, July 14, at the brown sign on Highway 23, north of Louisa at the Lawrence/Boyd County line. Three of his daughters, Sherry Webb, Yvette Short and Brandi Lambert attended and with other family members. Due to recent surgery, his son, Marvin Rose, Jr., watched the ceremony live on Facebook.
