Two people were injured in what first responders noted as severe burns when their home caught fire in the Zelda area Wednesday, January 8.

According to Fallsburg Fire Chief Chris Jobe, the home that was located along Cub Lane just off US 23, was fully engulfed when fire fighters responded around 4:30 p.m. Several of the family pets were lost in the fire leaving the family heartbroken.

In a Facebook post asking for help the woman living in the home was named as Georgina Childress by her granddaughter, Seymouria Virlinia Mitchell saying on her Facebook page that her grandmother and uncle, who also lived in the home, lost everything they had including shoes, money, their animals, and more. “They don’t even have a pair of shoes on their feet,” the granddaughter said.

She also asked in the post if anyone knows of any resources or ways to help them such as finding a place to live or getting assistance to please reach out.

Although there were reports of substantial burns reported one was taken to the hospital. However, one person was checked out at the scene.

Providing mutual aid to the Fallsburg Volunteer Fire Department was Louisa Station 1&2, Big Sandy, England Hill and East Fork.

A cause for the fire is unknown at this time. The American Red Cross is assisting the family with shelter and immediate needs.

Also, on the other end of Lawrence County, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Blaine Volunteer Fire Department battled a blaze on Ky 1715 after they received a call around 1:25 p.m.

According to Blaine Fire Chief Jeff, the call they received advising that a garage with six cars inside was on fire. Blaine Volunteer Fire Department responded with engine 53&54 with mutual aid from Webbville Volunteer Fire Department and Red bush Volunteer Fire Department. No injuries were reported in that incident that was a total loss.

The cause of the fire has not been reported at this time.
