Power outages have some wondering about daily average charges on their bills

KY Power and Big Sandy RECC seem to be charging customers a daily average even on days they have no power, according to some customers.
While it appears that way, the CEO for Big Sandy RECC, Jeff Prater, says that it will average out and that if anyone feels like their bill isn’t correct, they should call the electric company for an explanation.
“We have three different billing services which are; levelized billing that adjusts itself, prepaid meter which estimates power and regular read meter which is where the meter is read every month,” said Prater. However, for prepaid, when the electric is off there is no communication with the meter but it will correct itself whenever power is restored.”
Prater said they have someone who is available at all times to go over bills with customers as do most other utility companies.
The number to call for Big Sandy RECC is 606-789-4095.
