LOUISA — Renovations to the Lawrence County Courthouse are nearly complete, minus the possibility of doing work on the steps in front of the building, according to Lawrence County Deputy Judge-Executive Vince Doty. The fiscal court approved a resolution of House Bill 200 Coal Severance in April 2019, which includes $50,000 for courthouse improvements. Judge-Executive Phillip Carter said at the time that the money would mainly be used on the exterior of the building and that it would include landscaping projects. The exterior of the building was painted royal garnet, new sod was laid down in the front lawn, the windows were tinted and the gravel panels on the courthouse have been replaced with a stacked stone facade. “The tinted windows will also help with the energy cost of the building,” Doty said in November. Landscaping has also been done with fresh flowers blooming in pots hanging above the sidewalks and along the walkway at the entrance of the building. Flowers have also been hung on the porch of the Fred M. Vinson Museum. Doty said that they were pretty much finished with the improvements but that they may do something with the steps at the courthouse entrance.
