Prestonsburg Mayor to run for 29th District Senate seat

FRANKFORT —Prestonsburg Mayor Les Stapleton announced on Facebook Thursday morning that he was in Frankfort, signing up and announcing his candidacy for the 29th District Senate Seat (Floyd/Knott/Harlan/Bell/Letcher counties).
“I have been humbled by the support I have received from across the state in my position as the Mayor of Prestonsburg for the past 10 years and I have loved being involved in Prestonsburg as it has grown as a community to be respected,” Stapleton said. “I have enjoyed working with the Kentucky League of Cities on their Executive Board and the Boad of Directors, also working with them on numerous legislative issues.”
Stapleton said he has served as President of the Kentucky Council for Area Development District and that he currently a Board Member for the KIA, who is responsible for over a billion dollars in grants, low interest loans and funds to assist the state with water and wastewater projects.
“It is my desire to represent rural Kentucky and our region on a statewide platform,” Stapleton said. “Please contact me by cell or messenger if you would like to discuss my thoughts or to give me yours. I look forward to meeting and speaking to everyone and it is my promise to work tirelessly and diligently, like I have for Prestonsburg, for the counties that I will represent.”
Stapleton said he will continue to serve as Prestonsburg Mayor through December 2024. The election for the position will take place in November 2024.
