A Paintsville man was arrested Monday, Oct. 26 after police responded to a welfare check on Monday, Oct. 19, on Andrea Circle, and finding a female (determined to be his mother) deceased.
According to a press release, Paintsville Police Officers N. Collins and D. Meade spoke with a family member who reported to them that John Carroll (a cousin) stated that his mother had passed away a week ago and her body remained in the bed inside the residence. After locating the body of Patty Carroll inside the residence, Officer Collins, along with Officer Meade, Captain G. Spriggs and Chief D. Smith initiated an investigation.
From Oct. 19 until Oct. 26, they were able to obtain search warrants, subpoenas, medical/financial records, conduct interviews and gather additional information relevant to the case learning that the deceased in fact passed away approximately four months prior instead of a week as her son claimed.
Carroll was taken into custody in Pikeville at Buffalo Wild Wings and was transferred by the Paintsville Police Department for an interview.
Carroll was charged with abuse of a corpse, failure of person to report a death, theft by unlawful taking ($10,000 to $1 million), possession of forged instrument 2nd degree 17 counts, with a possibility of pending charges in the future.
He was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
