LOUISA — One person died around 6 a.m. Tuesday as a result of a crash involving a pickup truck and a logging truck on U.S. 23 near the Rt. 581 interchange in Lawrence County.
Lawrence County Coroner Wes Heston responded to a call from Lawrence County 911 concerning the collision, Heston said in a Facebook post reporting the incident.
Multiple local fire and EMS agencies aided with extraction, care, cleanup and traffic control, Heston said in the release.
The male driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, Heston said, but the name had not been released by press time Tuesday.
A release issued by Lawrence County Emergency Management said U.S. 23 was shut down in both directions for a time, but later said both of the southbound lanes were open, and one lane in northbound traffic was open. The office also said that the state highway department put down sand due to a diesel spill from the log truck.
The crash and death are under the investigation by Kentucky State Police, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the Lawrence County coroner.
