Officials identify Damon Adams as missing swimmer at Dewey Lake
Officials have identified a body that was discovered Friday, May 29, in Dewey Lake, at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, in Prestonsburg, following a search of a missing swimmer.
According to the Prestonsburg Police Chief Ross Shurtleff, “At approximately 7:22 p.m., Prestonsburg/Floyd County ECC received a call of an unaccounted swimmer in the area of the main channel near swimming pool hollow. Prestonsburg Police, Fire and EMS, US Army Corps of Engineers and Kentucky Division of Fish and Wildlife were notified and responded.
At approximately 8:48 p.m., Fire/EMS water technicians located a deceased male at the bottom of the main channel. As the authority for all waterway incidents, the investigation is under the purview of the Kentucky Division of Fish and Wildlife and we have no other releasable information at this time.”
Damon Jason Adams, 22, of Bulan, was identified by the Floyd County Coroner’s office.
Funeral services will be held at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Hindman, on Thursday, May 4, beginning at 1 p.m., Visitation will be 6-10 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, at the funeral home.
He was born April 30, 2004, a son of Robert and Cassandra Adams. Survivors also include daughters, Jalyn and Naomi; and a host of family and friends.
