New Mayor and Council sworn in during June meeting in Fort Gay

FORT GAY, WV — Newly elected mayor and new members of Fort Gay town council along with re-elected members were sworn in by Trey Morone, Town Attorney during a special meeting Monday night June 30, at city hall.

Morone was on-hand not only to swear the municipal members in but also to go over all the ins and outs of obligations, duties and legalities before their first regular meeting.

New Mayor Bob Sword said he had two important issues he wanted to immediately get started on as mayor and that is getting a police chief in place and hopefully enhancing a law enforcement department and also updating and enhancing the water department. “I’m told that I’m gonna get a rude awakening when I walk in the water department,” said Mayor Sword. “I’m hoping to work with the council because I don’t think I could’ve picked a better group to work with and we can get this water issue under control.”

The town has reportedly had years of water woes and allegations of misappropriated money by former mayor Joetta Hatfield.

Also sworn in was incumbent Municipal Judge Larry Britt and Town Recorder Wade Cyrus who had been the acting recorder for several months due to the resignation of Sheila Bowen.
