New case numbers drop in three counties

The number of positive COVID-19 cases dropped in all but one local county last week.

A total of 79 new coronavirus cases were reported in Lawrence, Johnson, Floyd and Martin counties between Tuesday, March 9, and Monday, March 15.

During the seven-day period that ended last Monday, March 8, the four counties had a total of 94 new cases.

Lawrence County’s number of new cases decreased by half, dropping from 28 to 14. Johnson County had 27 new cases, compared to 31 the previous week; and Martin County reported 11 new cases, compared to 11,

Floyd County’s new COVID-19 cases increased slightly from 22 to 27 during the period.

Active cases included 25 in Lawrence County, 30 in Johnson County, 34 in Floyd County and 23 in Martin County, as of Monday.

The total number of coronavirus cases since the pandemic began last March include 1,289 in Lawrence County, 2,012 in Johnson County, 3,096 in Floyd County and 964 in Martin County.

On the Kentucky COVID-19 incidence map, Johnson and Floyd counties are listed in the yellow, while Lawrence and Martin counties are in the orange.

Incidence rates on Monday were 14 in Lawrence County, 5.2 in Johnson County, 8.8 in Floyd County and 14 in Martin County.
