NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Lawrence County native Bobby Cyrus and his wife, Teddi Cyrus, originally from Drift in Floyd County, have released a new music video to accompany their new single, “My Wedding Day.”

Bobby Cyrus said in his bio that his father, Bobby “Bob” Glenn Cyrus, influenced him as an artist and a songwriter more than anyone else.

“Music was a dream my dad aspired to, but never got to chase,” Cyrus said. “He chose to work and raise his four kids, and that in itself showed me what’s required of a man if he’s going to call himself a man. He encouraged and influenced me to do what I do, as well as to take care of my responsibilities. I learned to write songs by listening to his songs.”

Cyrus is the younger cousin of Billy Ray Cyrus and a second cousin to Miley Cyrus, but due to an age difference — nine years — he said that he never made a musical connection with his famous cousin until after “Achy Breaky Heart” was released.

“As a kid I saw him at reunions and I always knew him, but we never really connected,” Bobby Cyrus said. “At the time I was catching tadpoles and he was breezing in and out and doing whatever he was doing. Later on, when I started performing, we connected. In the early 90’s, I was playing nightclubs and anywhere I could play and he was hooting to the top. I was proud and tickled to death for him.”

He said that it wasn’t until the mid-2000s that he and Billy Ray Cyrus forged a bond and that he began to seriously consider a career in Nashville.

“Both of our fathers died within about eight months of each other back in 2005,” Bobby Cyrus said. “That really brought us closer in a way. Billy and I had performed together a few times in the past, but when he heard some of the songs I had written and was singing, he was really supportive.”

Teddi Cyrus first began singing with her family in church. Her mother was a pianist and vocalist, and her father was a multi-instrumentalist. She learned to play piano, banjo and bass by ear alone, her bio said, and her father helped her hone her bass skills.

She was 12 years old when she landed a spot with the Jenny Wiley Theatre, and it didn’t take long for her to capture the attention of the Kentucky Opry, her bio said.

Upon auditioning, she became a member of the Opry at the age of 13 and performed over the next six years with the Opry, the bio said.

Later in life, Teddi Cyrus made the decision to put her music on hold for a while to give birth to two children, and she dedicated her time to raising them. But the flame of desire to perform music had not gone out, and she formed a duet show with her younger and sister, JoJo Hall, the bio said.

A few years later, she met Bobby Cyrus, the two hit it off and they began performing together. They were married on May 9, 2015.

According to a press release, the new video was filmed in South Carolina at Pickens Church by the Bonfire Music Group video team, Ethan Burkhardt and Troy House.

The video premiered on The Heartland Network and is available for viewing on social media and YouTube, the release said.
