Debord— A Memorial Trail Ride in memory of former Martin County Judge/Executive Victor Slone, is set for Saturday, Oct. 28, at 9 a.m. beginning at the Big Sandy Regional Airport located at 2690 Airport Road in Debord.

Slone, a magistrate at the time, was appointed by Governor Andy Beshear on April 6, 2021, to fill the unexpired term of former Martin County Judge William Davis, who officially resigned on March 26, 2021, and he was officially sworn in on May 9, 2021.

Slone had planned to run for the position as Judge Executive for another term, but announced in Dec. 2021 that due to illness he made the decision to not seek another term and that he would strive to complete the term to which he was appointed.

However, Slone lost his battle with Cancer on Jan. 2, 2022.

They ask that those who plan to attend the Memorial Trail Ride, RSVP on their event page so they can have an idea of how many people to expect. It will be a guided ride that will last approximately four hours.

On the event page it says that Slone had a dream and a vision to bring adventure tourism to Martin County and all of Eastern Kentucky. The ride is meant to raise awareness about the potential for adventure tourism and help with continuing his vision.

The ride will be free for anyone who wishes to participate. All machines, UTV, ATV, Motorcycle, etc. are welcome. A meal and an event shirt will be available for $25, with the payment due on Oct. 14. No extensions will be possible. Meals must be prepaid and will be provided by Cassady’s BBQ. Payment can be sent to the Martin County Tourism PayPal account at tourism@martincountyky.come.

Registration will take place at the Big Sandy Regional Airport beginning at 9 a.m. and all participants must sign a waive3r at registration to participate. Participants will leave from the airport and head out on the trail at around 10 a.m.
