Heritage Harvest Tour set for Sept. 30

REGIONAL — The 2023 Heritage Harvest Tour is scheduled for Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine, with four stops in Lawrence County and four in Boyd County, where you can enjoy scenic Appalachia as your drive through.

For those starting their tour in Boyd County, the first stop is 4 Got N Tymes, at 3209 Cannonsburg Road, in Ashland where they offer décor for fall, including pumpkins, mums, gourds, fodder and much more. The offer great gift and decorating ideas. Activities for all ages. Make and take kids scavenger hunt, mini hay maze, mini corn bin and more.

The second stop, Garner Missionary Baptist Church at 19231 KY 3 in Rush, which was established in the former Garner Elementary School building in 1992. The building was added on to in 2000 when they moved from the old school gym to their new sanctuary. The Pastor, Bob Quillen is a longtime resident of Rush and he heads up a congregation of family oriented down to earth folks. The goal of the church is to show God’s love to the surrounding community and the world in order to reach others for Christ. At Garner you will always hear a good word from the Bible, children’s laughter in the hallways and quite often smell something cooking in the kitchen.

The third stop is Eden’s Harvest at 19212 Walker Lane in Rush. They invite you to come visit an active farm raising pastured meats, beyond organic vegetables and row crops. You can also check out the antique tractors and equipment, farm animals, shop local vendors and the farmer’s market, Eden’s Harvest Pasture Raised Meats. Enjoy fresh baked bread and pickles, explore the kid’s play area. There are farmed themed games and activities, hayrides to see their grazing herd and photo opportunities.

The fourth stop is Baker Chapel Church located at 3900 Little Cat Fork Road in Louisa. It’s a 108-year-old church, offering chili, vegetable soup, beef stew, soup beans with cornbread, sauerkraut, drinks and desserts. You can also shop the general store for baked goods and hot apple pies. Lawrence County FFA is hosting a petting zoo, plenty of photo ops, see their authentic mountain man, leather works and much more.

The fifth stop is savage Farms located at 10251 N Hwy 3, in Louisa. They invite you to come sit a spell on their front porch, browse their country store and take home some farm fresh products that include maple syrup tapped from their trees; wine from their small farm winery; apple dumplings with ice cream; wine milkshakes; wine slushies; kid slushies and local vendor items.

The sixth stop is Grace Chapel Church, at 248 South Side Loop Road in Louisa where you are invited to visit them for a historic tour and enjoy banana bread.

The seventh stop is at Farmhouse Memories located at 75 KY 32, in Louisa. You can browse through their 1930’s farmhouse. They offer a shop filled with wreaths, florals, plants, antiques, and unique décor for your home. This year they are featuring a new line of canned goods- The “Crutcher House” Collection which offers a wide variety of delicious canned goods, pickled quail eggs, hot peaches, farmhouse pickles and beets, just to list a few. During the tour, you can purchase a tasty selection of old-fashioned candies and goodies from the LCHS band booster, batter bread, apple fritters and traditional candies. The local Boy Scout troop will be selling homemade breads.

The eighth and final stop is Durbin Farm Sorghum located at 17648 Durbin Farm Road in Catlettsburg where you can watch National Award-Winning sorghum being made. There is a display of antique farm implements and tools. You can make a sorghum can head wreath, take a pony ride or visit the animals at the petting zoo provided by the Lawrence County FFA. They have fodder, pumpkins, soap, jam, jellies, apple butter, pear honey, sorghum cookies, suckers and more. Sorghum biscuits, beans and cornbread available to purchase for lunch.
