INEZ — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a bomb threat at Martin County High School Jan. 11.

Later the same day, Sheriff John Kirk announced that they had identified the person responsible for the bomb threat, and although they determined it to be a student prank, a student was located and was criminally charged. The identity of the student cannot be released because the student is a minor.

Kirk said in a release that school officials will determine the disciplinary action and that it would be safe to send children to school the following day, which was Thursday. The school was cleared, thoroughly searched by a bomb detection dog and no device was found, Kirk said.

Students who drive to school were dismissed for the day, and the rest of the students were bussed to Inez Elementary School, where parents could pick them up. Students who were not picked up were bussed home at the end of the day.
