Louisa Mayor Harold Slone, on behalf of the City of Louisa, signed a proclamation Monday, March 30, making April Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The mayor stated in the proclamation that he also calls upon all Louisa citizens, community agencies, faith groups, medical facilities, elected leaders and businesses to increase their participation in our efforts to support families in preventing child abuse. The proclamation was signed in the presence of Madison Arrington Wilson, Cody Osborne and Josh Watkins from The Drop.

Wilson who is TAYLRD Regional Director of the Drop said when communities come together to invest time, attention and care into young people we help build confidence and resilience.

TAYLRD is an acronym for transition, age youth launching realized dreams. This is a federally funded initiative aimed to impact the lives of 16-25 year-olds in Kentucky. These funds were used to create drop-in centers all over the state. Lawrence County’s drop-in center has been open for going on 8 yrs. We are a specialty program of Pathways that provides a safe, drug free, fun space where young people can access mental and behavioral health services in a non-traditional way. Our engagement tools allow our youth to feel more comfortable when participating in service like therapy, community support, and peer support.

An upcoming event is scheduled April 9 from 5-7 pm called Play for Prevention at the Main Street Park in Louisa.

The event is hosted by The Drop and is free for all ages.

Wilson said there is expected to be fire truck rides, free kid’s food items provided by JJ’s Quesadilla Carriage, and Triple C’s Coffee Truck, outdoor games and crafts provided by other resource vendors.
