Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Braxton McGinnis said Porter was a coal miner and was on his way home from work in a Toyota Highlander when he fell asleep at the wheel and struck a tree.

“He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt,” McGinnis said.

Porter is survived by his wife, Holly Hedges Porter; three sons, Luther Dingess, Joshua Dingess and Caleb Dingess, all of Inez; a daughter, Kaitlyn Dingess of Morehead; his mother, Sally Johnson Porter of Inez; and two sisters, Angela Dalton and Misty Dillon, both of Inez.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, April 10, at Vineyard United Baptist Church with burial in Johnson-Porter Cemetery.
