LOUISA — The Louisa Fire Department plans to celebrate National Fire Prevention Week, which is Oct. 9-15, by going out into the community and teaching fire safety.
Throughout the week, department members will visit schools each day, teaching fire safety to students.
The fire department said in a release that you can go to www.fpw.org to download free information and tips on how to keep your family safe. Also on the website are activities, coloring pages, quizzes, fire escape plans and e-books to help in teaching children to be fire safe.
On Tuesday night, Oct. 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., fire engine rides will take place at Station 1, the downtown fire station. Sparky will be on hand to give out balloons and fire hats to everyone who attends.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, open house will be at the Louisa Community Center on Pike Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Events for the day will include Healthnet Aeromedical, live fire safety demonstrations, a fire safety house to teach kids how to escape a smoke-filled home, fire engine rides, fun inflatables and Sparky will be on hand to greet the kids with fire hats and balloons.
At the end of the day, there will be a drawing for door prizes such as smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and a bicycle for a boy and a girl.
