Lots of activities planned for Lawrence County

Pretty weather brings about weekend activities throughout Lawrence County. The next two weekends are sure to bring out families with fun activities for adults and kids.

Starting off Saturday, May 4, the Lawrence County Animal Shelter is having a fundraiser hosted by Jess Perry, Lawrence County Animal Control Officer.

The event will include vendors, live music, food, pet adoptions, a silent auction along with Alpacas and Demo by Silver Run Ranch Alpacas and also a Cruise-In Car Show sponsored by Lawrence County Judge Executive Phil Carter.

All proceeds will benefit the LC Animal Shelter.

The event will be at the Lawrence County Community Center, 205 Bulldog Lane from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

On Sunday, May 5, Louisa’s newest family restaurant Woody and Bear’s House of Rhythm and Brews will partner with Ken Akers of Rebel River Outfitters to provide a “Kids Carnival”. The event is free for all kids in and out of town.

The kids can enjoy the Bounce House, games, prizes and inside arcade as well.

The event will be held at the restaurant location on KY 2565 and will held from noon to 5 p.m.

If your kids like fishing there will be a free kids fishing derby called “Red, White and Bluegill” Saturday, May 11, at Yatesville Lake.

Sign-ups for the derby are from 11 a.m. til noon at the marina shelter. The derby will be from noon til 2 p.m. Trophies will be handed out for first and second place for most fish caught.

The age groups will be 3-5 years, 6-9 years, 10-12 years and 13-16 years.

Free fish bait will be provided by Rebel River Outfitters, Squatch Rods and The Greatest Catch.

Also on Saturday, April 11, the Lawrence County 4-H/FFA is having their first ever Pet Show, beginning at 2 p.m. The event will be held at The Lawrence County Farmer’s Market next to the extension building, 249 Industrial Park Road, Louisa.

There will be a $5 entry fee for each class which will include Best Trick, Best Costume, Prettiest Pet, Ugliest Pet, Most Unusual Dog/Puppy Cat/Kitten and People’s Choice.

Division 1 is for ages 9-18 and Cloverbud Division is ages 8 and under.
