A Lawrence County man was arrested by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, May 13, on several charges after witnesses say he allegedly attempted to use his vehicle as a weapon and threatened to fight officers during his arrest.

According to an arrest citation Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy Darvin Marsillett said, he responded to a report that Dallas T. Cantrell, 31, of Martha, and another man were attempting to fight an individual.

When going to the caller’s residence, Marsillett saw a Ford F-150 pickup truck matching the description of the one the caller advised Cantrell was driving and conducted a traffic stop on it.

The deputy said when he made contact with Cantrell, who smelled strongly of alcohol and would not perform field sobriety tests and that’s when he became increasingly irate with Marsillett and Paintsville Police Officer Justin Jackson, threatening to fight the officers.

According to the citation, Cantrell became combative and attempted to kick Marsillett when the deputy attempted to get him into a police cruiser.

Marsillett reported that once Cantrell was in the police cruiser, he continued to be combative by laying across the rear seat and attempting to kick out the window, leading to the deployment of OC spray in order to gain Cantrell’s compliance.

After Marsillett returned to the residence, he reported that witnesses told him that Cantrell had attempted to run over one individual with his vehicle and had run over another person’s foot.

Cantrell was charged with DUI (aggravating circumstances), resisting arrest, second-degree assault, second-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree disorderly conduct, menacing, third-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree criminal trespassing and a traffic charge.

Cantrell was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
